Music Club’s Hall of Fame Honors Three Members

THE SUN CITY GRAND MUSIC CLUB’S HALL OF FAME
HONORS THOSE WHO HAVE HELPED KEEP US IN HARMONY OVER THE YEARS

The Music Club was started in 1998 by a small group of resident music lovers and its membership grew enthusiastically because it provided residents with lots of different ways to enhance the wonderful world of music in our community. Whether playing an instrument, vocalizing, performing in groups, or just doing whatever it takes behind the scenes to make sure each performance comes off professionally, the Club has kept members motivated and most of all having fun.

Each year since 2001, the Club has selected one, two or three members to receive a ‘Hall of Fame Award’ to reflect their dedication and outstanding contributions to the Club. The Award would not only be given to the best performers in the Club, but would also include those who worked tirelessly on the many tasks required to run an all-volunteer organization – including publicists, stage managers, costumers and our technical wizards. They all work together to make the Club hum.

The pandemic prevented the Award to be given in 2020 so this year there were three honorees:

KAY JEFFERS

Kay has been a long-time member of the Grand Singers.  She has also sung in the Chorale since its beginning in 2004.  In the early days, she would hold sectionals in her home and also sang in some ensembles in the Grand Singers.    She has been the head librarian for the Grand Singers for many years.  This is a full-time job from the time the music arrives in August for the holiday music, to making sure the music was available for purchase on rehearsal days, and even sending music to those singers who weren’t able to return in time to join the group at the beginning of the season. Always with a smile on her face, Kay’s exceptional organizational skills were just one of several reasons she is a most worthy recipient of this Award.

Dennis Muehling

DENNIS MUEHLING

Dennis has been a member of the Grand Singers and Chorale for 10 years and served on the Grand Singers Council for three years. He was always willing to help where needed – facilitating ticket sales, helping singers purchase their music – wherever he was needed most. He has served on the Music Club Board as an officer and often volunteered for CAM events in which the MC was asked to participate  --  such as Oktoberfest and Newcomer Orientation gatherings.  He also served on the nominating committee for both the Grand Singers Council as well as the Music Club Board.  Dennis has sung in ensembles in many Celebration of Music events as well as the Music Club Showcases.

Alan Nielsen

ALAN NIELSEN

Again this year, one of the Club’s "Unsung Heroes" has joined the ranks of the Hall of Famers.  Alan is one of those technical wizards who quietly works in the background to make sure the MC events are the best they can be.  He works well in that environment, taking an active interest in Tech Support functions and using his technical background to good advantage in those tasks  --  all with little fanfare. Alan became active with the Tech team shortly after he moved to Grand in 2010.  His specialty is in the lighting requirements for many of the Grand’s shows at the Sonoran Ballroom, the Cimarron Center and the Amphitheater. The Club is proud of its professional lighting systems, and it takes a team of professionals to make sure they are utilized to their maximum capability.
