Our Mission Statement: The Music Club is composed of residents who share a love of MUSIC. It is dedicated to the performance of Vocal and Instrumental Music for enjoyment by both our participants and the general public.

Working toward this goal has afforded our club members the opportunity to bring forth their many talents in the areas of singing and playing instruments, both singly and in groups, as well as with backstage and technical activities.

Our Main Performances take place in the Sonoran Plaza and happen many tines throughout the year. Our Chorus/Grand Singers and Desert Divas put on concerts in April and December, and we have Showcases and Celebration Events in January, May and November. Twice a year in January and March are the Classical and Popera Concerts. There is also a wonderful Nightclub Series, which takes place twice a month, year round, with contracted groups that perform here in our Cimarron Nightclub. Finally, we have our Grand Cabaret Series, which takes place four times per year in January, April, July and October and brings contracted professional performers to the Sonoran Plaza stage.

Membership in the Sun City Grand Music club costs $10 per year per person (January through December). Dues should be paid by January 31 for your membership to remain current. No matter when you join within the calendar year the dues are $10.

They play the authentic sounds made famous by the great bands of the swing and jazz eras, such as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Arty Shaw, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and many others. • The Roadrunners consist of six professional musicians who have a background and interest in performing LIVE music reminiscent of the Rock and Roll groups of the 1950-1960 era. This popular group of talented entertainers has performed at venues all over the valley. It is the feeling of "The Roadrunners" that as long as the public enjoys our music, we will continue to ROCK! Please contact Bud Merkel at 623-214-8586 for more information.

  • The Sonoran Skies band combines five vocalists (all of whom are soloists) with a keyboard, drums, bass guitar, acoustic and electric guitars to perform a wide variety of popular songs primarily from the 60's and 70's (with a nod to the 50's and 80's). If you like The Eagles, The Beatles, The Mavericks, Eric Clapton, Simon & Garfunkel... you'll LOVE Sonoran Skies!!! Contact Sherry Bennett at 616-450-0327 for more information.

Vocal and Instrumental Groups

There are several vocal and/or instrumental groups within the Music Club.

  • The Acoustic Instrument Group is open to club members who play any sort of acoustic instrument - including but not limited to guitar, banjo, mandolin, string bass, harmonica, ukulele and drum (and to those who just want to come and sing along). The format is a very informal jam session with song selection moving from player to player. Attendees are encouraged to bring several songs for the group to play - words and chords are appreciated. This is a no pressure setting - attendees are not required to do anything - and in fact do not have to play an instrument in order to attend as singing along is a big part of the experience. For more information, please contact David Durham at 623-251-5301 or

  • The Desert Divas are a fun-loving and talented group of 30+ women. They put on two performances each year: one holiday concert and another in spring. If you are interested in joining the group or for more information, please contact the group's choral director, Wendy Fentiman, at 623-640-6450.

  • The Gospel Singers is a group with no specific scheduled rehearsal times, who enjoy gathering together to sing old familiar Gospel songs, as a community service. Contact Darlene Goemer at 734-673-2235 or Judy Hamer at 623-544-6352 for more information.

  • The Grand Singers is a chorus of over 140 volunteer singers. They rehearse once a week from September to April. They put on two shows each year: one in the spring and a Christmas show in early December. For more information, please contact Donna Mills at 623-556-1005.

  • The Grand Chorale is an auditioned group of about 32 singers taken from the ranks of the Grand Singers (above). The Chorale performs a few numbers at each of the Grand Singers' shows. For more information, please contact Donna Mills at 623-556-1005.

  • JAZZMATAZZ is an octet dedicated to performing vocal jazz in the style of Manhattan Transfer. Please contact Donna Richards at 623-692-7605 for more information.

  • The Jukebox Junkies sing songs from an era when popular songs were played on the Jukebox -- primarily from the 50's and 60's. They sing all types of music from that musical period, with heavy emphasis on vocal harmony. Many of their songs were sung by vocal groups such as the Beach Boys, The Lettermen, Four Lads and more. Their music is live and lively. Please contact Marv Myhre at 623-975-2701 for more information.

  • The Kingston Konnection is a trio that sings popular songs from the 40's through 60's, but also a variety of songs from other musical eras. Some folk, some rock, some country, and always live and lively, For more information, please contact Donna Mills at 623-556-1005.

  • The Piano Connection is a fun gathering of members who share a love of the piano. Pianists as well as singers come together monthly, October through May, in a relaxed setting at a member's home to play, sing or just listen to the music. It is a comfortable way to get over stage fright or test out a piece of music you plan to use in a show. All are welcome. For more information, please contact Barbara McCormack at 623-374-4533.
