Chorus: Grand Singers and Chorale

Auditions are not required to join the Chorus ("Grand Singers"). The Grand Singers Council meets in the first part of September to establish cutoff dates for joining the Chorus for the season and to schedule auditions for the Chorale (a subgroup of the Grand Singers). Chorale audition times will be announced at Grand Singers rehearsals.

For the 2018 Spring Concert:

  • Music pickup December 13, 2017 in the Mesquite room from 1-3 p.m.
Each member is responsible for purchasing their own music for the concert. However, those living in households with multiple Grand Singers can purchase music for those members.
  • Chorus begins January 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sonoran Plaza ballroom
  • Music will also be available for purchase at 1:30 p.m. prior to rehearsals from January 3rd through January 31st. Contact Kay Jeffers at (623) 546-4698 or email for questions regarding music purchase.
  • Cutoff date for new & returning singers is January 31st
  • Concert dates are April 7th & 8th, 2018

Classical Music Concert 2018

The Annual Classical Concert with Art Exhibit will be held on Saturday evening, March 3, 2018.  The Art Exhibit opens at 6:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:00 p.m.

Technical rehearsals are planned for:

  • Monday, February 26, 4-9 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 1, 4-9 p.m.

If you are a classical musician whether vocalist or instrumentalist, and would like to perform, we want to hear from you no later than 12/15/2017. Solos, duets and group performances are wanted.

Accompanist (Piano, Violin, Flute, etal) for classical vocalists and instrumentalists are also needed. Accompanist must be able to play operatic vocal scores and intermediate instrumental scores, not only with precision, but as the piano is the orchestra in this case, with considerable musicianship. Accompanists will also need to be available for rehearsals as needed with soloists.

Pianists who would prefer to play during the Art Exhibit pre- and post-concert, are also welcome to apply.

Soloists are responsible for finding their own accompanist, but Kristyne Olson will help as best she can from those accompanists who volunteer.

Will be held in conjunction with the Piano Connection gathering on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, 1-3 p.m. and by appointment. Vocalists may use a recorded track rather than an accompanist at the audition.

Please contact Kristyne Olson at or (623) 640-9093 for more information and to schedule an audition.

2018 May Showcase

We are proud to announce upcoming auditions for vocalists who would like to perform with our "Big Band" at the "2018 SCG MUSIC CLUB SHOWCASE of MUSIC"- May 11-12, 2018. Tech rehearsals will be scheduled on May 7 and May 9. This is a Grand opportunity to sing with a "Big Band."

Vocalist auditions will be held on Thursday February 1, 2018 at Cimarron Center in the Agua Fria Room from 12:30 to 3:00 PM. Judges are Sun City Grand Music Club Members.

You may audition with one or two music selections which should be swing, ballad, pop, or Broadway. You may audition with a CD or piano accompanist. Your audition music does not have to be the same as what you might choose to sing with the band at the Showcase Concert in May, but it should be in the genre of the above listed styles.

If you are selected to perform in the May concert, you will choose from many available band vocal charts and will rehearse with the Swing Kings in advance of the concert, at scheduled times in March and April.

Please contact Len King to schedule your time slot for the singing auditions on Feb. 1.

Celebration of Music

Preparing an Act for the Celebration of Music

  • Learn the theme of the Celebration show and choose your song or develop your performance so that it fits in with this theme.
  • Make sure your performance is not too long — usually about 3 minutes is fine, with some exceptions running longer.
  • Combining movement with your song/performance will make it more interesting.
  • Practice, practice, practice. Be as polished as you can be by audition time - March of each year..
  • If your performance uses background music, bring your CD to the audition.

During the Audition

  • You will be given a time for your audition (typically a 15-minute slot). Come early. You will need enough time to fill out some forms and to gather yourself together before going into the auditorium.
  • If you will be wearing a costume and you have it, wear it to the audition. If you don't have it yet, bring a description or picture of what it will look like and show that to the Director.
  • Bring any props that you will need with you if you have them. If not, be prepared to describe what your act will require.
  • Take a deep breath. Relax. Enjoy yourself.
